I own a RED 1982 AS50 I not sure what the pickups are , I bought it new In 1982 The pickup are incased in silver. The day a I got the guitar I was doing An A & B on EES 355 gibson That where more exspensive , The pickup on the Gibson where a little better but not by much . The size differance was another plus I think the pickup in 1982 where cleaner and clearer than 1981 . I love the guitar I own Serval other guitars Fender Strat GL fat srat les paul Schecter, and the Ibanez in right there when it come's to sound and the way it is made.The action and the neck is great , I have had different string gauges and lower action Never had a buzz. The japan one where great after that they went down hill fast.
