This is a great keyboard for stage and studio. It could be used as a "stand alone" keyboard, but for my use, I prefer to use it as the controller with most of the sounds, and midi another keyboard for fatness and dynamics... but it is "stand alone". My strongest objection is weight. It's time to get these keys down to a max of 30-40 pounds... we're out of the B3 era. Seriously, I love the X8. Roland did well.
