Rating :
I traded a Hofner arch top guitar for a Tascam M-224 mixer. It looks good but is not as quiet as the newer generation mixers. It has hiss. A technician at Tascam told me the hiss is because of the values of all the components, so nothing can be done about it.
It has no phantom power, and only one effect send. There is a foldback send, which perhaps could be used for effects. Each channel has EQ with 10 kHz high, 100 Hz low, and a sweepable semi-parametric mid. The M-224 has lots of nice features and I use it in my studio as my monitor mixer. I have never used it for recording, and must advise against it. With one or two channels it might be OK, but using 24 channels would be noisy by today's standards.
The bottom line is this mixer would serve well for monitoring and perhaps for live venues, but definitely not for modern digital recording.
